This might come as a surprise to you, but the travel industry has changed a tremendous amount over the past year — shocking, I know. In a bid to comply with local regulations and CDC recommendations as well as, you know, keep their flyers safe, several airlines have adjusted their operations to not only ask more of their staff but also of their customers. Unfortunately, not all of these changes have been well received. …

This past week, with each Zoom call we had with friends and family, it seemed everyone had one question for my wife and me: what’s your next big trip? Well, as of this moment, I still don’t have that answer. Sure, the recent vaccine news makes it seem as though we could soon see a return to (some) normalcy, but I’ve long been over the idea of trying to make plans, thus cutting down on disappointment.

Despite this, I am still slightly hopeful for what 2021 could bring in terms of travel. So what am I wishing for on that front? …

As I’ve mentioned in some of my previous reviews, Instagram has proven to be a surprisingly robust source for discovering new FinTech apps. That happens to be how I first came across the digital banking service Bella — AKA Bella Loves Me. After signing up for their waitlist, I was able to open an account when they officially launched on November 30th.

What first made me interested in Bella was its concept that emphasized random acts of kindness between its members. So, how does this work in practice? …

As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago, I’ve made an effort this year to read/listen to more finance books and review them. While that may seem simple enough, it means not only finding books that interest me but also finding the time to consume them. That’s why I was interested when I came across the service Blinkist, which serves up non-fiction content — including those related to money, business, and more — in easily-digestible morsels.

So, having explored Blinkist over the past several days, does it have something to offer those interested in finance and beyond? …

A few months back, I reviewed the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles, pondering if they might make a good go-to travel shoe thanks to their comfortable materials and water-repellent treatment. Well, despite not being able to fully test that theory by taking the shoes on any real trips, I recently purchased another pair of Mizzles — this time opting for the Runner-Up high-top model. Like their low-top counterparts, I figured that Wool Runner-Up Mizzles would be great for travel but also perfect for cold and wet weather at home.

So what do I think of the Wool Runner-Up Mizzles so far and how do they compare to other Allbirds options? Let’s take a closer look at the water-resistant…

After two back to back hotel reviews for my Travel Tuesday series (which I happened to start a month before the country locked down), I was wondering what I would do for my latest installment. That’s when it hit me that, instead of looking to adventures from the past, I could feature a property found right here in Springfield, Missouri. So, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to surprise my wife with a mini-staycation. The destination? Hotel Vandivort — a unique boutique hotel we’ve strolled through a few times but never had the pleasure of staying in.

Let’s take a look at what Hotel Vandivort has to offer and what I thought of my stay. …

In the past, I’ve covered all kinds of what I call “money milestones” on this site. These range from having an emergency fund to starting investing, to buying a house and beyond. However, perhaps one of the biggest money milestones is having the means to be generous.

Given the rough year that nearly all of us have had in 2020, recently I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be generous and charitable. As it turns out, it doesn’t require you to donate a hospital wing or fund a scholarship. Instead, there are small ways that you can make a difference in someone’s life with just a few extra dollars. …

For literal years, I’ve been raving about an app called Bumped. Yet, little did I know that, for much of that time, I was talking about a service that few could actually try for themselves. That’s because Bumped was still in its pilot or beta phase. However, as the platform launched its 1.0, many of the features that original users loved had changed — for better or worse.

So what exactly has changed now that Bumped 1.0 has arrived? …

In my previous Travel Tuesday installment, I shared my first real hotel review following my stay at the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas. Well, just last week, my wife and I ended up on a business road trip to Dallas, Texas. And, while I didn’t go into my stay thinking I would write about my experience, I realized that there were plenty of things I wanted to share about The Highland. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what this boutique hotel I lucked into has to offer.
